We have now commenced fieldwork at six sites including four apartment blocks that have just had in-vessel composters or worm farms installed.
Last week we were at an apartment block with a rooftop terrace, which the residents hope to convert to a rooftop garden. After the worm farms were installed in a shady spot on the ground, the residents gathered on the rooftop for a short workshop in worm farming run by Richard Thomas of wormlovers.
It was a great atmosphere as everyone enjoyed the city views and the prospect of being able to convert their food scraps into food for the garden. City of Stonnington provided the residents with caddies which make it very easy to separate out the food scraps that worms like to eat.
Pictured on the rooftop are Melissa Semken from City of Stonnington and a resident who, as you can see, is very pleased that his food scraps will no longer be going to landfill.
