An On-Site Composting Apparatus (OSCA for short), has arrived on campus here at Swinburne University of Technology. Shortly it will be placed within the UN building complex for the cafes to begin composting their food waste, and importantly, composting their biodegradable coffee cups!
This new technology is in addition to the in-vessel machines already processing the food scraps from the SPS building, and our College student residence.
The OCSA composting technology allows compost-keen-humans to optimise the carbon and nitrogen inputs, place food scraps (and coffee cups!) in one end, and uses continuous flow technology to produce compost in two weeks.
Stay tuned for updates on how our new OSCA is travelling, and if you're on campus, stop by for a gander while you sip your coffee from your biodegradable cup! Happy composting!
